The best laptop ever costs $999
A love letter to the Macbook Air
You can buy the best laptop ever made today for $999. It’s the Macbook Air 13” M4.
For as long as I’ve been alive you had to heavily trade-of speed, weight and cost. With Apple’s own processors, the M-series, this has changed. These are all exceptionally fast and serve most usecases well.
The lowest cost model of $999 is so good that you can program, edit pictures, do medium-weight computing tasks really well. Besides that, it’s better made than any other laptop on the market and has a great battery-life.
Oh, and it’s light!
— Sure there are more powerful models for those that need this. But you know whether you’re in the camp of needing a more powerful model. For virtually anyone else, the $999 model is an insanely great machine.
I bought the Air for travel. I expected that it’d feel slower and not-as-nice as my 4x more expensive desktop Mac Studio. But it doesn’t. It’s fast as hell and handles everything that I throw at it easily.
Apple started building their own processors for computers half a decade ago and it has been an incredible leap forward.
I have specific needs, tell me which laptop to get
Editing pictures a lot? You need the better display. Get one of the Macbook Pro models, as their screen is better. More RAM is also better, but you don’t need the “Max” processor.
I just need a massive battery. Get the M5 Macbook Pro 14” or the M4 Pro Macbook Pro 16”. The latter has a massive battery and the Pro processor has a longer battery life than the “Max”.
I just need something simple, but I like a bigger screen. Get the base Macbook Air 15”.
I want to game on the laptop. Get a Razer laptop. Similar styling to macbooks, but runs Windows and has NVIDIA GPUs, which is necessary for most games.
I like to connect multiple large displays to my laptop. Ah! Buyer beware! The Air doesn’t do this very well. I recommend getting a Macbook Pro.

Don't think I could do my work without my pro max. Tried using several Claude Code terminals on an air, and that thing was frying!
Good post Job!
